Chief Inspector Di Roskilly from the Road Policing Unit says, "It sounds obvious, but there are still people who take risks with their own and others' safety by failing to defrost and demist their windscreens in the morning.
Leave sufficient time in the morning to defrost your windscreen and other windows. Ensure that the screen wash is topped up and isn't frozen and that windscreen wipers and tyres are maintained in good condition."
Sussex Police is working with its partners to minimise the impact of this week's cold weather conditions.
Our priority is to keep major routes, such as A roads and some B roads and bus routes, passable. The councils have a number of gritters and snow plough attachments on standby, ready to treat major roads in advance of ice or snow. In prolonged snowfall, their service also includes snow ploughing and clearing pavements by hand.
