Greater power in the decision making process affecting their part of the city after a twelve month pilot scheme and the Bristol Estate have been chosen for the pilot, which has been made possible thanks to the Localism Act 2011.
The idea is that local residents’ associations, local action teams and single-interest groups will work with ward councillors to make decisions.
Cllr Ben Duncan, who is cabinet member for communities, said: “The aim is to make people feel local governance is something they can do, rather than something which is done to them.
“Residents know best what they want – and what needs doing in their area. We expect more people will get involved in running services if they know they have more say. People want influence over their area day-to-day, not just twice a decade at elections.”
